This employee spotlight series aims to highlight the talented individuals who contribute to this special workplace culture. For this month’s interview, we speak with Steve Cadeau, Senior Account Executive at Versatile.

How did you hear about Versatile? Why did you want to work here?

I chose to work at Versatile in June 2021 for a few reasons. First, joining a startup and feeling like you can influence success was very important to me.  Second, our product stands alone in the market. It is a revolutionary idea where we can actually support change in the industry all without having our clients change what they do.

What does your job entail?

I am a senior account executive and support the top construction firms across North America. We have a healthy balance of meeting with new companies and project teams while maintaining / building long lasting relationships with our current partners.

What inspired you to pursue this career?

I graduated with a computer science degree and focused on software development. I quickly realized that my mouth moved faster than my fingers did, so I got into sales.  I have been in software sales my entire post university career.  Construction and technology are two of my biggest passions so being able to be part of Versatile is the perfect fit.

What’s the first thing you do when you start working every day?

I walk my kids to school every morning. That puts me in a good mindset to start the day and understand what I am working for. 

 

What’s your approach to navigating work challenges?

The good thing about working here at Versatile is that we have a very flat organizational structure. Dealing with challenges is much easier because we have a variety of different avenues to address any issues. Everyone is open to connecting to resolve any challenges.  And being part of a startup, we are all encouraged to voice our challenges in order to adjust quickly and keep things moving in a positive direction.

What’s the best career advice someone has given you?

I know this is more of a proverb, but you have to love what you do. Someone important said: “Find a job that you enjoy doing and you will never work a day in your life”.  Go find your passion.  As well, if you see something that isn’t working, speak up and don’t be afraid to challenge the norm.

What was your first job?

 I was an ice hockey referee.  Coldwater Minor Hockey.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I spent quite a bit of time in Doha, Qatar managing a team installing safety rigging and structures across the city for the 2006 Asian games.

 

What’s your favorite place in the world?

Serengeti (Tanzania) or Kenora (Ontario).

What is your motto or personal mantra?

“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”  I want to try everything at least once and be exposed to everything this world has to offer.

What is the one thing you can’t live without?

I can’t live without sports, outdoor activities, and my family.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t working at Versatile?

I would buy, sell, rent, flip, and repair houses.
