QA Lead

About the job:

Versatile is a Construction Tech Company that has pioneered a new, non-intrusive way to capture job-site performance data. Our vision is to connect all fragmented pieces of the construction process to a single source of productivity and precision. We transform construction professionals into superheroes and aim to transform construction into a truly controllable manufacturing process.

As our QA Lead, or, more precisely, our Quality Engineering Lead, you will be taking ownership of quality engineering across our products — from backend services and web applications, through data dashboards, to mobile apps. You’ll lead a distributed team of Quality Engineers in Israel, Croatia, and Ukraine, driving testing strategy, sponsoring automation maturity, and championing a mindset of quality ownership across the company.

This is a quality engineering leadership role with some hands-on work required: about 30% hands-on with testing and automation, with the rest focused on process, people, and quality culture. You’ll work closely with Engineering, DevOps, and Product teams to make quality visible, measurable, and part of everyone’s definition of “done.”

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a distributed QA team (Israel, Croatia, Ukraine).
  • Shape and execute the QA strategy — from manual and automated testing to observability and release validation.
  • Drive a proactive quality mindset — make quality part of the build process, not a gate at the end.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and DevOps to improve logs, monitoring, and dashboards for production visibility.
  • Expand and scale automation efforts (Playwright and beyond).
  • Balance pragmatism and rigor — knowing when QA should block a release and when it should test retrospectively.
  • Engage with Product, UX, and Engineering to represent the quality perspective early — ensuring designs, definitions, and edge cases align with real-world product expectations.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation and test visibility across systems.
  • Manage task allocation, prioritization, and team performance to ensure consistent delivery.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of experience in QA / Quality Engineering, including 2+ years in a lead or management role.
  • Deep, proven experience in manual testing, with at least moderate experience in automation.
  • Experience with testing webmobilebackend and APIs, including proficiency in SQL and with Postman.
  • Familiarity with Playwright, Selenium, or similar automation frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, AWS environments, and distributed systems.
  • Passion for building quality culture, not just test coverage.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills — able to challenge, coach, and align teams effectively.
  • Experience with event-driven or highly-evented architectures — strong advantage.
  • Background working with Node.js, React, Python/Django, and similar stacks — advantage.
  • Experience with observability tools, logging, or production monitoring — advantage.
  • BSc or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field — preferred.
  • Experience with data-heavy systems — nice to have.
